December 2010 15:45 Celina came to Avenía with the vision of a timeless, 50s style wedding gown- a replica of a tea-length gown worn by her Aunt married in the classic 50s era. As she described her dream wedding gown, Nancy was busy bringing Celina’s vision to life by sketching each detail on her over sized sketch pad. “…She started sketching. Which was unbelievable to see. It was awesome because we were debating on the top, [whether] to do it flat like it was in the picture or how we ended up doing it. She sketched it back and forth and back and forth until I decided,” said Celina. Then, the most exciting part: choosing the perfect fabric. “Nancy has this MAGIC black cabinet. Inside are about 2000 bridal fabric samples. It made me wish I wanted something super ornate, because the lace, oooooooh the lace, the sheer, the beads, the lining she has. Its is to DIE for,” said Celina. “I got to touch about 40, trying to figure out JUST what kind of silk I wanted. How stiff I wanted it. How thick. How soft. How much of a shine. And which of the 14 shades of Ivory did I want MY dress in.”
Together Nancy and Celia created the gown that got Celina bursting with excitement- everything was perfect. There was one catch- Celina was visiting her family in Utah from her home in Ethiopia and only had 3.5 weeks before her Utah wedding! Nancy was more than happy to accommodate for Celina, given she came to us all the way from Ethiopia! To Celina’s advantage, she was getting married in the off- season and her gown was finished right on time. Congratulations Celina! We wish you all the best. Images and Qutoes from Celina’s blog. December 2010 6:59 Avenía was pleased to work with Utah Valley Bride at InStudio by Kenneth Linge on the 2011 Utah Valley Bride Magazine, reaching newsstands in January. We met up for a high-fashion photo shoot which turned out to be what Briana called “editorial perfection”. We couldn’t agree more! Above: “…Model, Heidi gets her inner-goddess on in this Avenía Bridal gown while co-editor, Kate, and I gush from the sidelines,” said Briana. It was a pleasure to work with Briana, Kate, Leah and everyone at the InStudio shoot! Look for Utah Valley Bride Magazine in stores January, 2011. I honestly wished I wasn't already married, so that I'd have reason to have you create a gown for me! -------------- To a new and dear friend and the most phenomenal fashion guru in the U.S.! Thanks for your untiring efforts to make my wardrobe the winning entre. You are amazing and I just love you! ---------------- I had a specific dress in mind for my wedding day that I simply could not find in any of the bridal shops. When I finally discovered Nancy, I described to her the dress that I had in mind. She drew it up exactly as I described it and created just as I had dreamed. She made many great suggestions but was not forceful in her opinion. Her work is flawless and tasteful. I'm really glad I went with Nancy and didn't settle. ----------------- The dress for the High School Musical 3 premier was stunning; everybody loved it and saw exactly what we were going for—that classic Hollywood movie star elegance! Your work is flawless and comparable, if not better, than any Italian, French or Hollywood designer I have ever worn. ------------------ I have sewed all my life, and know about the work involved in transforming a strapless gown into a modest wedding dress. You must be a perfectionist, because I was so impressed with the details of the finished product. Thank you for continuing to work on the dress until it was perfect.
