Real Bride: Anne

Anne and Nancy designed this one-of-a-kind custom dress, it was Anne’s dream come true!
“My Husband: Jake had known my older brother Danny for a few years (although Danny had never mentioned him to me.) I had a very close girl friend from Las Vegas who got engaged to a very close friend of Jake’s from North Carolina. When this happened my brother Danny thought of Jake and I dating and mentioned that we should double date with our friends that were getting married. Jake and I were both home for the summer and living on opposite ends of the coast, but Danny did everything he could to set us up. Jake came to Las Vegas for our friends wedding where we met. We clicked right off the bat and started spending all our possible time together. We dated for a year before we were married on Aug. 6th 2011.”

“How I chose my gown: Choosing my gown was EASY. Ever since I can remember I have had an idea of what my wedding would look like in my head. I have always loved to sew, especially dresses. Growing up, Betsey Johnson and her collection of full-skirted party dresses were always my favorite. With dreams of designing dresses some day constantly running through in my head I always knew I would need to design my own wedding dress. Because I had a vintage wedding, I wanted a vintage dress. I looked at tons of vintage dresses online and combined my favorite aspects of each. Nancy was wonderful with helping me in this area. I took all the pictures into her, and she sketched out my thoughts as I threw them at her. She had so many wonderful tips and advice that hadn’t even crossed my mind. And just like that my beautiful grown was created on paper.”

RB Anne

“Experience: My experience as Avenia was wonderful. It was such a happy place. I loved coming in after work and knowing not only would I get to sit on a extremely comfortable couch and watch other happy brides try on dresses, but I would get to try my dream dress on, each time. Everyone always knew my name and my dress, which made me feel even more comfortable. And like I have mentioned several times, Nancy was wonderful to work with and always took all of my thoughts and helped to create the dress in my mind.”

“When/Where: We were married in Las Vegas, NV on August 6, 2011. Our reception was at The Siena Golf Course ballroom.”

“Feelings: My wedding day was hands down one of the best days of my entire life so far. I don’t care how cliche that sounds. I had always dreamed of this day, and it was everything that I had dreamed of. It was magical, and happy. I felt like a princess, and on top of it all I married Jake. I couldn’t have asked for more in my husband, he exceeds everything I ever imagined for myself. I constantly tell Jake that I wish I could wear my dress and re-marry him everyday. Pure bliss.”

Real Bride: Maribelle

Gorgeous Maribelle chose an Angelina Couture gown. This dress originally came strapless and we worked with Angelina Couture to have shoulders and sleeves build into the pattern so that Maribelle could have the dress of her dreams.

His Story

“I had a friend and roommate who prided himself in knowing many women on campus.  Despite the fact that they usually weren’t the “sharpest tools in the shed”, he didn’t seem to mind.  Frequently he would invite his “girl-friends” over to the apartment and introduce them to us, but after a while it got old.  The girls were nice, but more so kind of ditzy and definitely not my type.

Anyway, this roommate and I were headed home from the gym one day when he asked me, “Hey man, have you met Moe yet?”  I rolled my eyes, “No” I responded, and frankly I did not want to.  I didn’t know who she was, but judging on the caliber of woman he brought to the apartment, I didn’t think I’d be missing out on too much.  Nevertheless we stopped by and found that she had just left only a few moments prior.  Relieved, we began our walk home.

Unbeknownst to me, Moe knew who I was and when she found out we had stopped by she immediately phoned my roommate and set a time to come over and “hang out.”  That night she and her roommates stopped by, and I remember thinking, “Wow, that girl is way pretty.”  However, as my roommates began to flock around Moe and her roommates, I quietly returned to my room.  “A girl like that” I thought, “would be bored with someone like me.”

Moe and I became good friends but I never dreamed anything would work between us because of how different I thought we were. And it made me sad because she wasn’t like the girls my roommate typically brought over.  She was sharp, witty, and so dang funny.  I laughed more with Moe than I had with any other person I knew.  I liked her.  Luckily for me, a roommate showed me a text message from Moe mentioning a crush she had on me.  I remember being shocked and extremely flattered.  “Wow” I thought, “why on Earth would she be interested in me?”

The rest is history.  I found my best friend and the one person who allowed me to be me.  She makes me laugh like I didn’t think anyone could and I consider myself so blessed to be a part of her life. ”

Her Story

“I first met Kasen when I went over to a friend’s house who actually was roommates with Kasen. Kasen was sitting on the couch in his living room under a blanket with his sister and cousins (Pookie, Carlee, & Devan) My friend introduced me but Kasen briefly acknowledged with the typical, ”hello and nice to meet you.” He really didn’t seem to care too much. After a couple weeks, my friends and I were over at his apartment often, hanging out with all his roommates, but never really him. He was always busy.

The week before Memorial Weekend after hanging out at their apartment, I remember confiding in one of his roommates (who I thought trustoworthy) explaining my little crush on Kasen. Turns out, his roommate showed Kasen that text and didn’t techinically tell him. So later that week, Kasen called me up and asked me on a date. Best first date of my life, and the last first date I’d ever have (totally thinking it was just a summer fling!)

After being together for a over a year, we have become the best of friends. I feel so blessed that our Heavenly Father was aware of my particular wants & desires, and brought Kasen into my life.”

Where Are We Now?

“Maribelle currently lives in Provo, Utah working on her BSN at Brigham Young University. She also works as a caregiver for an adult handicap named Charlie who she adores.

Kasen recently transferred down from BYU-Idaho to Utah Valley University. Currently he is working full-time at ProPay and also studying to receive his JD/MBA.”

How He Asked…

“So, Maribelle was on a week long business trip in Dallas, Texas, which was quite convenient because it gave me some time alone to plan out how I would ‘pop the question.’  Since day one, Maribelle had been trying her hardest to debunk my proposal plans, so I had to call upon some outside resources for assistance.

Inviting Maribelle out to a nice place would be too obvious and so I had our Bishop call her up and extend an invite to a fancy restaurant in downtown Salt Lake City.  He said the LDS Professionals would be meeting there that night and decided to invite us.  He explained how we were to be dressed in professional wear and that dinner would be promptly served at 8:00 pm.  Maribelle was quick to call me and excited to relay the information to me — and better yet, she had no idea.

The big night came.  Maribelle and I arrived a good 15 – 20 minutes early and so I pulled her into a nearby room to ‘check out the view.’  The restaurant was on the 10th floor and the room we were in was surrounded by windows.  The sun was just going down, and it all made for a really pretty sight.  As we stood there, I turned to Maribelle and said, “Moe, Bishop isn’t going to be here, and there’s no event from the LDS Professionals tonight either.”  She was confused and a bit taken a back.  “Why not?” she asked.  I smiled, “Moe, that was all fabricated to get you here so I could ask you a question.”  The whole mood suddenly changed; both of us could feel what was inevitably coming.  My hands began to shake and my body  began to lock up.  I never pictured something as simple as ‘taking a knee’ to be so difficult.  Very slowly and somewhat mechanically, I knelt down, pulled out the ring, and ‘popped the question.’

We think she said, yes.  But honestly we really don’t remember much of what happened after that.  The rest was kind of a blur for us both.  We went to dinner, talked, cried, and just enjoyed one another’s company for the remainder of the night.

It didn’t go at all how I had figured my proposal would one day happen, but I wouldn’t have changed one bit of it.”

When and Where…

“We were married on December 17th at the Oquirrh Mountain Temple”

Real Bride: Amber

Amber chose a Liancarlo gown that she had built-up with sleeves and shoulders.

Amber Liancarlo

Here is Amber’s story

“Josh and I met through some of my really good friends who were roommates and mission companions with him. We were friends for about two years before we started dating.”

“My mom, sister, and dad were with me when I chose my gown.  I wanted something different without tons of beading/crystals.  This was the first gown I tried on and fell in love with it.  We tried on many others at Avenia and I couldn’t decide between my gown and a lace gown. But Nancy put on the long veil while I was wearing my gown and it made the whole thing come together.  I had Nancy build up the dress with sleeves.  I had a great experience at Avenia.  They worked with my schedule for all of my fittings and the seamstresses were excellent.”

Amber

“Josh and I were married on October 11, 2011 in the Salt Lake Temple.  It was a beautiful day.”

Amber

“We had a dinner/reception later that evening at Millcreek Inn. It was such a great day.  I was so nervous right before the ceremony but after the ceremony it was so much fun.  I had so many compliments on my dress (so beautiful, save that dress for me when I get married, so different, the best dress ever).”

Amber

Thank you Amber for sharing your story with us! Congratulations on your wedding!!

Veil and belt also available at Avenia
