ABOUT DESIGNER BRIDAL GOWNS
Do I need an appointment to view designer gowns?
We welcome you to our store at any time during store operating hours. However, we encourage you to schedule an appointment in advance so that we can better anticipate your needs and prepare for your visit. During your visit, a bridal consultant will discuss with you your style, vision, budget, location and any cultural or religious considerations so she can assist you in either finding or designing the perfect wedding gown. We look forward to your visit.
When should I order my designer wedding gown?
The lead time required in ordering your gown depends on the designer, the season and a number of other considerations. For designer gowns we suggest you anticipate at least three (3) months for your gown to arrive. Rush orders may be accommodated for an additional fee. You should also allow anywhere from 1 - 2 months for alterations and any customization, which means that—ideally— you should order your gown with a total lead time of at least four (4) months before your wedding date. That said, Avenía understands that not all engagements afford that kind of lead time. We will do everything possible to work within your timeframe.
What designers do you carry?
Avenía is proud to feature couture gowns of exceptional design, fabric and artistry from the houses of Badgley Mischka Bride, Rivini, Vineyard by Priscilla of Boston, Sposa by St. Pucchi, Lian Carlo, Junko Yoshioka, Angelina Couture and Lila Couture. Our bridal consultants travel frequently to New York and other designer locations to meet with designers and their staffs in order to assemble collections exclusive to the region and truly representative of the Avenía experience. In addition to designer collections, for brides seeking a one-of-a-kind couture experience, Avenía offers custom couture—gowns inspired by the artistry of Nancy Barrus and tailored to your unique style and creativity.
If I order a designer bridal gown, will I need alterations?
Most designer gowns require alterations. Avenía prides itself in tailoring your gown for a perfect look and fit. Our expert designers and seamstresses excel at customizing gowns to fit your shape—that’s part of the Avenía experience. Gowns are "special ordered" not ordered "custom made" to your measurements. The measurements taken at the time of ordering are simply to help determine the size to order from the manufacturer. Since body types differ and styles fit differently, most dresses will then need to be altered to your shape for the best possible fit. Alterations generally require an additional charge and may take anywhere from two (2) to four (4) weeks. We may be able to accommodate a rush order for a nominal fee.
Are designer gowns custom made to my measurements?
Measurements are taken based on the designer’s size chart. Designer sizes often run one to two sizes smaller than ready-to-wear attire you purchase from a department store. Bust, waist and hip measurements are taken at the time of purchase and compared to the manufacturer’s size charts. Based on your approval, gowns are then ordered to the closest matching designer size or the largest portion measured. The gown will then need to be custom fitted and altered or customized to your size and shape, and any religious or cultural style considerations.
If I order a designer gown, what happens once my gown arrives?
Once your gown arrives, a bridal consultant will contact you and invite you to schedule an appointment to try your gown for fitting and any alteration / customization, and to accessorize your gown. At the time of your fitting, your balance is due and your bridal consultant will schedule your next fitting.
